Does any one know if the Vn800 radiator is similar to that of the zl900? the parts numbers differ by one digit - I'm mainly interested in the mountings for a radiator guard cos maybe a VN guard would fit? [there's also a lot more aftermarket guards available for the VN]

I have a 87-96 VN1500 A shroud and screen on my 1k. I see no reason why you couldn't do the same on your bike. It gives it a much cleaner more modern look IMO...similar to the one on my Mean Streak.

Could you post some pics of that, I've been looking on and off for quite a while for an alternative and would be interested in seeing how this fits. Was it a straight bolt on or did it have to be modified?

was this a bolt up and go modification or did you need to get crafty to make it work?

pics please....definately

Yeah...sorry..I didn't see the request till now. I will get some pics shortly. Oh...and if memory serves...it was a near bolt on replacement. I had put some generic radiator screen in there, but I recently picked up the correct VN 1500 screen and I will be putting it on in the next couple of days. I will post up picks and info then.

Hillbilly,

When you installed that rad cover did you have to ditch the ZL inner shroud parts or is it possible to work those into the mix with the VN cover?

It seems alot of that hot air would be blowing up towards the rider without the inner plastic.

I am looking at swapping mine out to accommodate the Mean streak forks.

Is your Mean streak rad different from the VN1500A?

My plastic radiator screen was broken from road debrit. I had the housing laying around from my 96 1500. It was replaced with a chrome unit brand new. The plastic scoop and screen were swapped for the frame and a generic heavy duty plastic screen..cut and zip tied to fit. I bought a 1500a screen on Ebay a little while back..and as soon as it warms up I will be installing it..along with a couple of other little things. I don't really notice any difference in the amount of heat generated. I will have a better idea of what it was like to install..and how it is mounted then. It was only installed as a temporary fix..till I decided I didn't miss the big scoop and all the plastic. (Not a big fan of plastic)
