yup, be there will bells on. Should have the engine back together by then fitted with all new gaskets, wires, plugs, full synth oil, freshy cleaned pods and next best to new carbs. can't wait to see the dyno charts when she goes in for her jetting and tuning. Oh yeah.. forgot to mention that I will be bringing my custom monogrammed blindfold so as to give you 1Kers a fair chance. :bringiton:

I see the ZL900 and the ZL1000 as very different bikes.

The 1k sits very differently than the 9 ... to me the 1k feel like a Vmax ... sorry, but it does.

The ZL900 is SEXY !!!

It also fits me perfectly. It's such a different bike from anything ever produced and I like that.

I can see an argument over the ZL1000 vs the Vmax but not the 1k and 9 ...

Here's an interesting vid from YOUTUBE of a ZL900 drag vs a "bigger" bike:

back in the late 80's and early 90's I used to drag my z-l900 on a semi regular bases. Got to compete against a wide variety of bikes. I must admit that the z-l1000 was a tight run at the top end but never had one cross the line ahead of me.

Having said this again :bringiton:

Maybe we should do an episode on pinks or something a zl1 would be a nice addition to my toy collection.

Well paulfun, Pinks is going to be shooting at Norwalk Raceway in June.......

I've got both a ZL900 and a ZL1000, and both are very stock. Seriously, I can't tell a difference between them, speedwise, they even sound identical! Sure, the ZL1000 sits back a little bit more, but over all, they are very equal bikes in my opinion!

My nine is getting MOT'd on Friday, then I have until August to get it running sweet. I'll get some times from the dragstrip at the Bulldog Bash

how is the weather back east boys???

how much longer until the tracks open???
sounds as though some (zl900) challangers may be ready and willing to take their beatings ....lol

I just got home from a back to back ride on my new zl1000 and then my zl900.

The zl1000 is stock as stock can be.

The zl900 has a 5° advancer plate 1 shim under the needles and 127.5 main(aftermarket keihin style) and a huge Metzeler ME880 170/80-15

Let me say that although these bikes share so many parts, they are 2 totally different animals. The zl1000 is sooooo much more comfortable to ride. The seat is sooo nice and cushy and holds you firmly in place. The handlebars have a nice rise to take some weight off your wrists. I could easily ride this bike like I do my Venture, it's a nice, nice bike to ride. Part throttle cruising and low end grunt are impressive and more plentiful than on the zl900. Could be due to the taller rear tire I have on the zl900. There is a 200-300 rpm difference at highway speeds. I really enjoy this zl1000 and was sold that it was faster than the zl900.

As some of you know I had some carb issues with the drilling of the slides and the dynojet stage1 and stage3. I could never get the zl900 to run right or even pull as good as it did stock. Well 2 weeks ago I finally replaced the drilled slides with good used ones out of a zg1000(thanks to Steve in FL of COG) the zl900 pulls now like it should and then some! I so can't wait to get this thing on the track to see what it will do. Even with the taller rear tire giving me a slightly higher ratio this bike just has more brute force at WFO. Low end grunt now comes on fast and strong as it should. If you want to ruin a good set of carb slides hold that thought,, I'll swap ya mine!!

The verdict:
The zl1000 has more streetable power, but the zl900 won't have a problem showing it who's boss. :stir:

The nearest track to me opens this weekend but I'm no where ready to get the bike out or head up that way - delays, delays, delays................
