I've spent an incredible number of hours searching for the portion of the airbox that connects to the carbs (11010-1558). The upstream portion (connects to Carbs) is what I need. The prior owner put pods on and I want to restore the bike to stock.
ANY help would be very appreciated.
IF anyone happens to have the drawing/exact dimensions, I am thinking of trying to fabricate it myself.
THX!

If you mean the boots, I think they still make those. I'm sure somebody here will fix you up with a link. I tell you what though, that bike will be far easier to work on with pods. I'd think this over a bit more if I were you. Also do you know if the jets have been changed? Usually a switch to pods means you have to tweak the carbs too.

I need the box. I have no idea what was done to the carbs when the pods were put on.
My thought is that it would be easier to tune up and calibrate the carbs with all the stock equipment

Well my thoughts as a guy who's had both pods and an air box is I can get the rack off in a few minutes with pods, It takes hours to get the air-boxed carbs off and on. Since you'll almost for sure be pulling them several times to fine tune, your life will be easier with pods. That said, I still have my airbox, but my last bike had pods. The first time I pulled the air box on this one though it took days. I'm not kidding either. Getting it back on wasn't even an option. Had to buy new boots and some used holders. I hate the air box.

ZLrider,
Many thanks for responding.
I'm not at all familiar with tuning a bike especially with 4 carbs. Shop costs have gone through the roof, I have had two estimates to get my bike in shape and they are talking about $4,000 which requires I do the work myself.
So, I thought getting everything back to stock would make it easier to get it to perform as designed. I'm not a racer and dont need to get every possible bit of performance out of it.
It currently has 4 pods and right now and it wont start. HELP! Lol.
I bought it a couple months ago and dont know anything about it (my mistake). I've got lots of work to do on it and right now I have the tank removed.
I am interested in your airbox, if it takes time to install/remove I,m OK with it since I'm retired.
I just need to make sure it is the proper part of the airbox, it is the part that connects directly to the carbs. The air filter element is mounted in the box that is part of the batter holder as well.
If its the correct part, would you consider $35.00 and of course I will pay all shipping. Ill also be looking for the chrome parts on either side of the airbox they are part numbers 36001.
Thank you for your time.

Sorry if it sounded like I have an extra airbox. I do not. I was just saying it is a whole lot easier and quicker to remove carbs with pods. It takes me, like 3 hours with new boots to R&R those carbs. The first time I thought for awhile I'd never get them off and getting them off is the easy part! LOL I'd look for that airbox on ebay. Also there is a facebook page or two devoted to our bikes. You could ask there if anybody has a spare. The boots I think are still available new. At least they were when I needed a set about 3 years ago. Good luck, you'll need some. If you're missing a lot of parts though, you have your work cut out for you for sure.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. But I guess I’ve got time. I’ll be getting it in shape and start it again with the pods that are on it. If it runs well, great. If not I guess it’s a trip to the shop.
Appreciate your comments. regards and happy riding.

@ $4g for shop rates I'd disassemble and reassemble 20 times and become an expert over the winter. Did you adjust the valves, it is always a first step to get the cylinder pressures set correct, that is a maintenance item and CV carbs work well when all other things are working well.

87kawzl,
Really appreciate any and all suggestions.
I don’t have the experience to know how to approach getting it running. Checking the pressure seems like a good move. Now I just need a gage.
Regards.

Your local chain parts store should loan tools like that. Adjusting the valves is a 2 beer job, buy the feeler gauges, read a couple of pages in manual and have at it.

Well my mechanical skills are meager compared to some here, but to me the first place to start is with carb cleaning. The 2nd would be to make sure I'm getting spark. Valve adjustment is important, but how many miles are on the bike? Valves out of adjustment I don't think usually leads to a no start situation, it just won't have the power that it should. My old KZ idled and ran smoothly, but after adjusting the valves it was so much faster that it was like riding a different bike.

:hello: Refering to post #5, 4 K to work on any bike is highway robbery. We have a thread on how to do carbs or Rick West.

Appreciate the comment. Yesterday I took off 2 of the spark plug wires and it looks like I need to change all 4. One wire just pulled right out of the plug cap!

Also I’m waiting on a new starter solenoid to be delivered. Last time I tried starting it the starter motor didn’t stop until the battery died. I’m hopping the problem is the starter solenoid.

Has any heard of the Niche company. That is the maker of the replacement solenoid. I ordered it on Amazon. Are they any good?

Well that’s something to look forward to! ‍
Should get it tomorrow. I’ll have to test it.

:hello: I bought CHINA made starters, solenoids, and stators for 3 different brands of bikes and had to send them all back. One stator was sent back 5 times for repairs over a 4 month period. The last time it got lost in the mail and the Dealer gave me store credit which was good for me. :laughing7:.

I'm not sure how relevant this is, but on a car, when your starter doesn't disengage it's most likely an alignment issue. Sometimes simply shimming the starter out a little bit is all you need to do. If the solenoid was dead, it wouldn't engage at all.
