Parts Depot and parts

Salut.

I read something about a parts depot that as the best prices...is there a website? Any suggestions on where to buy parts?

Damn IT!!!!! My ZL900 just failed it's MOT (test we have to have every year in the UK to show our vehicle is road-worthy). So no more riding it for a while

The only thing I can't fix myself is the exhaust, even though we welded it up it was still "leaking and excessively noisy" << that's a direct quote from the failure sheet.

Looks like I'll need to get those custom exhausts made earlier than I thought.

Now the really hard decision. I've been offered the use of my Dad's Honda shadow 750 V-twin thing, or my girlfriend's Dad's ZL1000, with custom exhausts and stage 3 tuned....

Hmmm..... decisions decisions.... I'll let you guys decide

I've been on the thou before, so I know it's a good ride. Although admittedly I've only ever used it for very short trips.

I'd go for the Honda....And then I'd set it on fire and steal the ZL....Just kidding, my Mom has a 750 Shadow, nice bike...Take the ZL.

I'd take the honda, go hock it for the value of a set of original zl exhausts (or custom made replicas)..... get yer zl back on the road quick and go out zl ridin with yer gf's dad. Rumours have it that all this fkin rain we've been having could possible stop in a week or two... and we might even get some sun shine...

If you're lookin to weld up set of exhaust mufflers yer self acp, go find a co named "designs in stainless" on the web. I got a pair of 100mm s/s half spheres to make up the front edge of the muffler some time back off them for a few quid each when I was tinkering with the idea of making a set of s/s pipes for mine.... still have em right here next to my monitor... I just patched the lil holes in the bottom of my mufflers with s/s plates n rivets. keep me goin for another bit.

It's not the mufflers, they only have a small bit of rust on the insides. It's the collector box and the pipes as the go into it. Mainly the collector box though, it looked like a honeycomb when we took it off to weld it. I think it's now more weld than metal.

Crap, theres a bit of making in that one... I have seen someone on the web somewhere that made their own collector box, for a ZL too i think it was. they made it out of something like 1.5mm welded S/S plate. Not impossible but a bit difficuly to fab one as tidy as the original, also to get the back pressure right you would want to be spot on with the gubbins inside...

Might be an idea to put up a "want it now" on eBay for a collector box, ya never know...

the 6 is a different set up greg, loks the same but is different. Still a lorra dosh though. I did some correspondance with a guy down in oz a while back and he had a good price for a full S/S system for under €1k.

I'm going to ask him to make the cans look exactly the same, so until you get close their won't be a difference in the looks. Probably go the same route as my girlfriend's dad. He has 4 into 2, then a balance beam going across before the cans.

Oh, forgot to say, the guy I'm going to get them from will custom make the full exhaust system in stainless steel, to my exact specs, for less than £600.

..gee, that's a pity, acp, you should live here, I take mine for a "Pink Slip" (yearly pre-rego, roadworthy check) and they test the headlights, running and brake lights, indicators, horn and tyre wear lugs and thats about it, they don't even start it up, check the brakes or nothin' else.
