Well, I recently got the newly acquired ZL1000 to run. Still needs some work to be road worthy and lots to do cosmetically to suit my tastes but at least it runs - how good - I'm not sure yet. Hopefully I can get enough of it together to do some test runs around the driveway this weekend. In the meantime, here is a video of it without the exhaust on it - doesn't sound too bad - hahaha. Hope the link works. Later.

AWESOME BRO !!! sounds good ! congrats !!!!!:headbang: CHRIS

I had my zl1 out for a decent run today. So far so good but I would have to say that so far I think the 900 is the better bike! at least for me!

aluminum looks nice and shineytoo

As stated in the polishing thread - as long as you are not too close to it - hahaha. Needs a lot of work cosmetically but I can do most of that this winter so it won't look very pretty for the summer. I'm heading out to the shop in a bit to put the supertrapps on and get a few other things done and hopefully ride it around the driveway a bit. I'll take another video with the supertrapps on if I remember too. I'm hoping it will run a little smoother once the exhaust is on. Later.

Thats called a 50/50 bike...Looks good from 50 feet or 50 MPH

If that's the way they are rated then you better bump that up to 100/100 - hahaha. Later.

Got the "essentials" back on and set up. Rode it around the drive some. Was able to click through all gears - feels better than the shifting on my 900. Seems to be spitting back through carb #3 and the revs want to hang before dropping. Haven't synced the carbs yet - think this could have something to do with it? Need more or less discs in the trapps? I'll have to pull the carbs tomorrow and see if the #3 intake boot is ok and not sucking air or anything. I adjusted the valves already. Any other ideas? Water pump is definitely leaking too. Later.

WD-40 = no change in idle
Went ahead and tried to sync the carbs. First hooked up, no vac unless the throttle was blipped - screws were turned all the way out. I turned them in until I started getting some readings. For some reason, #2 is not showing vac until you blip the throttle. Seems smoother now, throttle response is a ton better and the spitting back through carb #3 is hardly noticeable. Not sure on the #2 no vac deal though?

I also noticed when I was going through the carbs that the mixture screws still had the caps in place. First bike I've ever had that still had the caps in place. Any trick to drilling or getting these out? Just realized I had not cleaned this area since the caps were still in place. Later.

carefully drill hole in cap, insert sheet metal screw and pull out cap and screw with plyers.

sounds like carbs need work to me. pull em out clean em out and should fix you up

I cant think of what would cause a zero vacume reading other than possible something is plugging the nipple on the carbs..gotta be some vacume there...

Yep, went through the carbs twice already - just didn't get all of it since the mix screw caps were still in place. There's vac on #2, just not at idle. Blip the throttle and it comes up fine. I'll pull the carbs in a bit, check for blockage in the vac port, and remove the mix screw caps and give it another good cleaning. Thanks guys. Later.

Pulled the carbs, drilled out the mix screw covers. 3 of the 4 were set at 2 turns out, #2 was only at 1 turn out. Replaced everything with new in there and set all to 2 turns out. Checked for spark - all look ok. Was going to do a compression check but my adapter has gotten up and walked off. Put it back together, try to sync again. I've got them all pretty close but they are very jittery and barely showing up on the guage. Still wanting to spit a little too. Not sure where to start playing with it next. Will the trapps make that much of a difference as far as playing with the mix screws? I need to break down and buy a cheap computer for the shop one of these days, running back and forth stinks - hahaha. Later.

Took the mix screws out to 3 1/2 turns - seemed to help smooth out the sync a little. Got it fairly close now. Also dumped some seafoam in the tank. Maybe something is sticking? Bike hasn't ran in two years and who knows when the last time this motor ran. I'll try to take another video today and post up. My eyes are fried from adjusting the carbs while oil and water drip on the exhaust and smoke rolls up into them from the water pump - hahaha. Later.

KEWL,, That morgans carbtune is sweet isn't it!

I think you still have something in the primary circuit

Got a valve laying down on ya? Or a spring? Guide? I'm not liking why the gauge just drops to zero
Yes aftermarket muffs make a difference on the mixture screw. I had to richen it when I put a KN filter on mine. What number can you put on the gauges? I can't see them...when you say spit...what do you mean exactly?

Does the vacuum on 3 drop to zero at any other speed than idle?

Not sure lowlife. Not sure what you mean by the number on the guage question. In the video, they are about 14-16 at idle, then I rev it a little, then holding the throttle at about 1500rpm it reads about 10-12 and starts dropping on #3. When I say spit, I mean like it's coughing back through the carb - unless that was sarcasm - hahaha. Later.

Mark, The morgan is better than the merc sticks but I still would like to someday have a set of the guages like Paul, Willy and others have. Later.

No thats what I meant by spit. I'm not ruling out what mark and others are saying with the carb...I just take a different approach....Deos it drop above 1500 rpm say at 3-4k?

Seems a little weak if your gauge is accurate...Oh BTW I'll trade my set for yours anyday!!!!!!
