stick coils?

Just so you know. You can send power to the 1 or 4 first and have it proper polarity. I have not read zrx thread and don't intend to. Why? Because I wouldn't wire them with reverse polarity.

Well, I just wanted to keep things black to black. red to red, green to green, red to red. The bike has undergone the transformation.

I would have to disagree with anyone who says this doesn't change performace....especially 4-9 grand range. Doesn't seem to bleed off energy at these rpms.....Pulls much stronger than stock. I'll be glad to answer any questions.

I never said to reverse the colors. That would reverse the polarity. I wired the ones in my pics color to color just as you have said with power going to #4 first and the ground going to #1. I have done several sets of these and may have done some opposite, which wouldn't change a damn thing period. I think you are still missing something.

Nice job on the install. How much space is there between the coil and the side of the tank?

Thank you and zero clearance. The tank isn't resting on them...but it is touching. I can move the coil around so it's not like it's bearing any weight. FOLKS...This is a MUST.
I'm putting kits together and going to sell here in the classifieds (if this is permittable) and ebay.
Can't stress enough how this will change your bike...especially on the top end.

I want to thank ZLMark again...for puttin up with my lameness. I wish I had you for a neighbor..smart ass :laughing7: :rotf: I mean I ask some STUPID questions. I would have liked to see the expression on your face when you saw my questions.

If it runs noticeably better, there must've been something wrong with the OE set-up i.e. coil breaking down, bad plug wire connection, etc.

Let me clear things up.....My bike ran like a cut cat. Could break the rear wheel loose @ 30 mph. Nothing was wrong with my bike. What I'm trying to say about the transition. I wasn't even going to do it, but after all the questions I asked, I felt obligated to see it through....well...I like to explain things with analogies. Think about a knife that you have sharpened...cuts well, very sharp....now think about a knife that has been sharpened by a professional sharpener, the knife is so sharp, it will cut with the weight of it's blade. The engine was just fine....but after the transition, the engine feels "super" tuned now. It's like putting a KN short air ram on a car....just sharpens the air intake and gives the engine a performance boost.

So if I install ANOTHER set up these in paralell than my bike wil be SUPER SUPER fast? :laughing7:

If you installed another set of these, you would need a head with two spark plug holes. 600's have too narrow cylinder. Can't speak for 900's. Then theres issue of changing going to a 24 volt system. Then there's fuel delivery. Then you will have to think about changing pistons and rings.... .as well as the bottom half. Then with this incredible amount of horsepower gain, you will need better brakes. Oh...forgot about exhaust. It can be done. That would be a sweet project...You would have to have access to a machine shop and be a decent machinest. I think you would have to fabricate your own head, or taking an existing head and filling...I don't think this could be a street bike as water passages would have to be compromised....Let me know how it works out for you.

Yew guyz r dum. Maybe you should get a fancy pants spark plug and build the bike around it. Or just cut a topfuel engine in half and have a big fat MSD distributor hanging out on one side and a supercharger on the other.

Back around '87 there was a supercharger kit for an Eliminator but it would require putting a carb where the battery goes. Lots of fab work like milling out a sidecover to accept a seal and drilling the end of the crank to accept a shaft extension to mount a drive pulley to.

mudrunner might have been joking :pk:

I didn't know he was joking..I'm all about making things go fast..I milled a head for my GS1100 to accept direct port nitrous. I never thought about adding a second plug to a head, so I thought he was being serious. You see all these guys fabricating this and fabricating that.

I'm gonna drill some holes in my exhaust and put some plugs in there so I can have dual afterburners. Then I'm gonna put some in my fuel tank so I can have some before burners. Then I'm puttin magnets between my headlights so they'll be cross-eyed.

keep in mind, there is only so much you can do. yes, if you want to stick thousands of dollars into your ZL to improve your horsepower i'm all for it ! i love lots of horsepower, but the ZL is cursed with the shaft drive, which will not allow for serious speed gains. if you want more speed you will have to convert to chain drive & change the gearing to you own personal tastes.

add extra spark plugs
add aftermarket ignition
add nitrous
bore cylinders out
put turbo on

not saying you won't notice a difference in performance ! all of these will add horsepower, get you better dyno runs, make your rear tire spin more, get better 1/8 mile times, & sound really cool, but if you are looking to dominate at track in quarter mile, converting to chain drive is the best way to make this happen. you will lose the low end grunt from the line, but will gain top end speed.

the ZL is geared low, making lauches at the starting line Awesome, but at the same time that low gearing will hinder the engines ability at higher speeds

Back in the day , I was privy to a machinest and a machine shop. The things I saw guys do was ....unbelievable...so I don't think anything is impossible with the right tools. I saw some of the most incredible machines go through this guys shop. Salisbury, MD. They have a couple of businesses, devoted just to speed. Say what you want and they will tell you that it can or can not be had.

This is my next project....http://www.noswizard.com/index.php/sb75-direct-port-bike-nitrous-kit.html

BTW: Proform Shift Lights will NOT work on inline 4's. Autometer does.

Your not going to NOS the 600 are you? Sounds like a waste of $$$ I would get a 900 or bigger and do it :headbang:
