Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD) 2013

Re: Vmd 2013

Austin and I have our routine down, pick out a campsite at the track and pretty much stay at the tract except for the club ride. Might change plans and take a ride into Mansfield since I learned that my great grandfather was born there, and would like to see where. Never done the drag racing but there is a drag strip up the road that the others have gone to before. Only racing at the track is a dirt bike circut and then the cafe racers on the main track.

Re: Vmd 2013

So what do you guys do, pick out a site and pitch a tent? Does anybody bring a camper, or is that even allowed? Just trying to figure out what I'm going to do this year.......... :headbang:

Re: Vmd 2013

You have two camping options, outside the track where most of the guys go (Timberlake RV Park?) or at the campgrounds at the track. Yes at the track you can have campers, but my son and I use tents since we have the Dodge pulling a trailer with our bikes. The campground at the track is primitive no electric or sewer hook-ups, only portajohns but they did bring in a shower house last year. Then the Club has a club space inside the track where we hang out, look at bikes, watch cafe racers go around the track, and hopefully Chris has his mobile workshop there as well. But at dark they close the inside track and nobody is allowed to stay or camp there.

Re: Vmd 2013

Most tracks require Boots, gloves, riding jacket and helmet! Watch Dale Walkers "How to Launch" video! (a lot!)

Re: Vmd 2013

How many are going to camp & how many are renting cabins/motels. He is so excited he might relive himself. My be he can use it to make his rear tire more sticky for a better E T. Sounds like a good idea. Its all good.

Re: Vmd 2013

As far as the cabins, I only remember seeing one of them in the area we camped in 2011, and that is the one Markus rents. There may be others somewhere, but I'm not sure how close they would be?? Wissler pulled a camper that year and stayed in it. most of us brought tents and crossed our fingers they didn't get washed away in the rain....:laughing7:

Re: Vmd 2013

I have a tent that mounts in the bed of a pickup & works great in the rain. No flooding up there. Also have air mattress that forms around the wheel well humps. It is a good set up. R. J.

Camping out in the middle of the Allegheny National Forest in PA for 12 years during Deer Season you see everything that Mother Nature through s at you & learn real quick what works & doesn't work. R. J.

Re: Vmd 2013

Dragway 42 is a half hour or so north of VMD, thats the 1/4 mile. Then theres an 1/8th mile track about a half hour south at Marion. I used to live about 10 min from Mid Ohio Raceway. I sure miss that area, now we have to trailer the bikes close to 2 hours to the track, Humboldt County Dragway, just a little 1/8th mile track in the middle of the Iowa corn fields!

Re: Vmd 2013

I am hopeing to make it this year and will be camping at the campground as ususal.
