Cracking up??

Long past that! We are all INSANE!!!!!:help:

Here's ANOTHER article from back in the day with a stock V65 Magna quarter mile time in the upper 10's...........I'm still waiting to see ONE magazine article with a stock big ZL in the 10's...........I know, I know, the Honda executives bribed the magazine editors and then there's the grassy knoll theory........:rotf: Muscle Bike Wars 2010 is going to be awesome!

BTW, I just saw Texas's chart and speaking as an owner of that Honda VF1000R clicking off a 10.8??? I have to raise the B.S. flag on that one too. I got owned by a ZX900 ninja on that bike after three attempts with newby rider that I know.:thefinger: Although my 85 FJ1100 only lost to a ,thats right....an 86 1000r ninja, which I purchased that following month! Just more examples of the game!

texas as support of the talk/rumor that I mention read prostreets post.

AND tell me why do you think the v-max is faster than the v-65 when even the posted articles you show us say the v-65 runs 10.73 and or 10.85 and lists the v-max as being slower at 10.99????????????????:hello:
Maybe there is something to that rumor after all!!!????:hello2:

Why would honda build a bike in a cruiser catagory that could beat thier sport bike of the day?
And while we are on the subject I talked to a long time racer the other day who confirmed my memory of this rumor and also added he couldnt get the honda past 11.6 without nitros. I am gonna invite him along if this day at the drags comes to life as in addition to his vintage bikes he has a sweet turbo busa I want to get a run on.:laughing7:

John- I take nothing you have said out of context, when you say that that a zl1000 or 900 will ever go into the 10's, and that a stock V65 may edge out a zl in a drag race, but I have question the article you just submitted. By its own specifactions, it puts out a "claimed" 116 HP and it tips the scales at 590 lbs wet??? :no-no-no:Come on. Even an educated guy like yourself can see that doesn't make sense. A stock 1986 kawi 1000R can't do better than a 10.9 and its putting out 123HP and weighs 40 lbs less. Its also way more aerodynamic and has a chain drive. I have said in the past that the middle eighties (especially 84-85) best times were contracted to 130 lb Jay Gleason with bikes that were tuned for maximum acceleration (ie strapped front forks, suspension tweaking and tire pressure adjustments ) so that the manufacturers could squeeze out 3-4 more tenths out of their flagship bikes. hell, I even remember an ad for the Suzuki 1150 with a 10.4 quarter mile! my high 10 second FJ1100 never lost to that bike. And I tip the scales at 240! That V65 may sneak into the 10's but I doubt if you or I will ever see one do it. realistically, I remember that bike doing an 11.2 or something like that. And I was extremely impressed with that time. Just my observation, sir. Check out a real test report on (what was then) a very fast bike: http://motorbikearchives.com/Bike-Tests/Road-and-Street/Kawasaki-Ninja-1000R-1986.html

The VMAX was and still is King as far as I'm concerned, in the battle of the 80's muscle bikes. Been riding mine for almost 4 years now and have yet to lose a race against a V65 or big ZL, that discussion would be sillier than the one we're talking about now, big ZL vs. V65!!! I haven't been digging too hard looking for VMAX quarter mile times, because I think it's a foregone conclusion that everyone knows, as did the mags of the day, that it was the clear-cut winner after it's release in 1985. I have been concentrating on V65 vs. Big ZL times, and you guys can claim this or that about the numbers, but still, several magazine shootouts proved that the V65 Magna could make it into the 10's, yet NOBODY did it on a big ZL, or it would have been PRINTED! Yes, there were certainly other bikes in the 10's also, including the GS1150E, and I'm not disputing that. However, the big ZL just couldn't do it, therefore, it wasn't printed. Until somebody can prove this otherwise, ya'll are just going to have to live with the fact that the ZL wasn't the fastest bike back in the day, there were several faster bikes built by other manufacturers that could beat it, and I happen to own several of them. I love ALL of these bikes, including the big ZL's, but facts are facts, and next summer, the timeslips will do the talking!!!!!!

Why wait?? Go to the track and run your honda and prove it to yourself now rather than waiting till summer for me to make you look like a fool at the strip. :pistols:

What's the rush? I've got 6 months to practice, not to mention lose 65 lbs to get me under 200! Trust me, I'll be making some runs on the V65 in the very near future, and I'll post timeslips when I get them, I will have to check the local tracks but the only 2 I'm familar with are 1/8 mile ones. I have only drag raced on a track a few times (with a 69 Camaro), so launching a bike hard on the strip is something I will have to work on. I've done it on the street a few zillion times, so I think I'm capable, just be patient grasshopper. All will be decided in due time...........and like I said, win or lose. Nobody is going to be a fool, I'm going to be happy if we can just pull this off and have a good showing of people from around the country, from all the different muscle bike forums!!!!!

I only mentioned it because I know you own one and found the article interesting. I would love to get my hands on a 1983-1986 Suzuki XN85 Turbo. The rarest, nicest looking and one of the quickest factory turbo's ever built.

I saw one locally on Craigslist last summer for less than 3K, I think it would be a wise investment. There has been one floating around eBay over the past couple years with like 2 miles on it, the sellers has been trying to get like 25K for it or something crazy like that. I kid you not, there was a factory ASSEMBLY MANUAL for a CX500 turbo on eBay today with a buy it now of 5000 dollars! Obviously not worth that much, but some people think anything that has anything to do with the factory turbos of the 80's is pure gold!

Good atitude on that one! Sometimes my wording leaves a bit to be disired!
:laughing7: I guess one would say I need a better vocabulary and to learn how to spell!

Had a nieghbor that had one way back when. He loved that bike and was very capable with it on the back roads. Never did get to ride it as we very rarely rode with each other and simply never got around to swapping bikes.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHAT WE READ IN OLD AND QUESTIONABLE TEST REPORTS. SOME OF US HAVE TO GET ON A STRIP FOR THE FIRST TIME, SOME OF US HAVE TO REBUILD OUR BIKES OVER THE WINTER, AND SOME OF US JUST HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE TIME FOR FRIENDLY COMPETITION IS UPON US THIS COMING SPRING/SUMMER. LET THE RESULTS SHOW WHO'S BOSS. LETS JUST HOPE WE ARE ALL RACING "INTERNALLY STOCK" BIKES.:mblah05:
