ZL 1000 split into atoms: engine upgrade questions

dyno tuned, A/F readings and the whole shebang, luckily i meet some cool guys that have a nice setup at there farm, so im getting off the hook pretty cheap :-)

The black thing on the bottom of de bowls are heaters I think, the are only installed by some models in cold countries so the carbs would not freeze.
Some guys from the zrxoa are looking for them because it is easier to change the main jet:hello2::hello2:
Correct me if i am wrong ,there is also no zrx with a catholic converter as far as i know.
May be a stupid question, you wrote that you used a bottle for the petrol but did you also vent the bottle?
The only thing the ktric does is give a signal to the ignition to advance the igniton at full throttle
If your look into the carbs (air filters off)when you give it throttle are all the 4 vacuum slides openening and acting the same
It can be that one or more rubber membraams are leaking so the slides does not open correctly

Im 99,9999% sure they are valves that cut off the fuel, if its done to protect a catalyc converter , im not sure :-)

Yep the bottle was vented.

My carbs are from a zrx 1200 year 04, and also had the heater circuit, which i removed, its simply some tubes that go to each carb and connect to the heater system, but i think that switching bowls, cured the problem, and the rest may be regular jetting issues, im running 50 mm stacks with ramair foam filters, and from what ive read, jetting with them can be tricky.
And all vacuum slides are behaving the same.

Okay i am conviced ,the carbs are california types wich are a bit rare .I read a lot on the zrxoa site but this was new for me.
Hope everything will sort out now and your bike runs fine.
Make also sure you sychronice the carbs that made a big difference to me.
Please keep us informed and I say hi from the Netherlands:winkcool::winkcool:

I am almost finished installing an AEM uego wideband o2 sensor, that i just recieved, and should hopefully get everything sorted this weekend :headbang:

Will be interesting to see what numbers the sensor spits out, as the insanely lean A/F readings i where getting on the dyno´s sniffer cant be accurete, and where must likely caused by reversion in the exhaust system, so maybe im gonna have to get that sorted somehow. If anybody has any experience with this, then im all ears

I had to dig up this thread...What ever happened to this beauty? That is some work that was done.

If you can't get it running correctly I still have some friends in the Military that will gladly ship it across the pond to me and I promise I will take good care of it! :D

Not sure about the wrap increasing engine heat, most off the post ive read regarding exhaust wrap, seemed to be positive, but im pretty sure, that the hotter you can keep your exhaust gasses, the faster they will try to escape = faster gas flow, vice versa, the more they cool and loose density= pressure , the slower the flow will get, but im gonna be keeping my eyes on everything for sure:winkcool:.

Anyways ever since i put pods on my bike, i had been missing those lovely chrome airbox covers, so i made a braket for them and the coils, which i decided to move, since there was freaky little room left where they were originally.

That is some nice work right there on the airbox cover bracket! Definitely gives me some good ideas. I'm suprised with as many people that run pods, that somebody hasn't started mass producing these, much like the front fork braces. I bet you could make a nice little chunk of change building and selling these, like on an eBay store (HINT HINT Bacchus!!!!)

Yeah that is a cool bracket...After I'm up and running again and I actually have time over summer college break I might try to make one of those brackets...We will see what time brings.
