ZL 1000 split into atoms: engine upgrade questions

Is that A WiildFlare on the back??? If so, you better hang on tight!

Yep wildflares all around, 120 front and 170 at the back :headbang: saw several people on here mention that they were pretty sticky, so easy choice, the flame design is pretty cool too :pistols:.

Hello
How is the bike is it finished?
does it run good ? and do you have some pictures.
I was wondering how everything ended up.
:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:

The stock petcock delivers much more fuel on prime. For that bike I would invest in a manual pingel and run with no inline filter.

Yep, that might become nessecary, but that´s not what is causing my current problem :-( and would like to get that sorted before i make a decision on the manuel pingel, would be a shame to waste the money, if the stock petcock can flow enough on prime.

Yes, had to, cause i removed the one in the tank, cause it was to damaged.

If it's possible, have the fuel line t tilted back so the fuel line runs behind the carb assembly bracket. This way the line will have more room to run between the airbox and carbs allowing more gradual bends and room for the filter. I hate to say it because they aren't cheap, but the pingel really is what you need. I found when my bike was running low on fuel at highway speeds it would start to surge, surging means lean and lean destroys motors.

Ok, thanks for the advice mate, will have a look in my wallet :devil:

When you experienced surging, was that on prime or on?

Hello
You don't need a pingel :no-no-no:,because i also don't have one and markzl1100 also don't have one and the most guys from the zrxoa also don't have one
You have much to big main jet ,I am running DJ 130 thats the same as Keihin 140
Needle 4th from the top
srews 2.5 turns out:hello2:
What did you do with you bowl vents ? i hope you leaved them open
And another thing is you tank vent not bad ,Markzl had the same problems and when he opend the fuelopening it ran fine,his tankvent was blocked
What is your air/fuel ratio during the dynorun
I have a wideband o2 sensor which reads the air/fuel ratio al the time and it has to be around the 13.5 ,mine is between the 13 and 14 all the way
You already can buy for $150 a wideband from ebay thats a much better investment then a pingle
Hope this will help you:hello::hello::hello::hello:

Hey ZLRX, have you had a look at the post from zrx-oa? it explains the problem a little better.

http://zrxoa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=219485

It has nothing to do with tank venting, as we hade a run with the fuel being supplyed from a boottle, 1 meter above the carbs, without any filters, and yes the the bowl vents are left open.
We started the day with 142 keihin but tried the 152 MJ when we were having problems, the A/F ratio above 7k rmp´s went off the charts, leaner then 25:1 almost as if the bowls were being sucked dry, im gonna try cleaning the carvbs once again, and hope that helps.

Think i may have it solved, the carbs i bought for the project were from a zrx 1200, with k-trick bowls, although the k-trick wires have been cut off, i think that these bowls limit the flow to the MJ somehow, so im gonna try fittings some different carbs bowls, hopefully the one from the originalk carbs will fit.

Sorry ,but I have the same carbs with K-tric and (wich is not used)
That can't be the problem:nono:
Are you sure you have the cam timing right ? One teeth behind the good position can also cause such a problem
No vacuum leaks?
To find vacuum leaks use a pensel with petrol on it en brush around the intake rubbers etc (engine runs idle)
If your engine revs up at some point then there is the problem
If you want you can also use a gpz1000 (or zx1000) carb they are the same,but have no ktric
I am thinking a lot but it is also a mistery for me ,it would be nice if you lived around the corner so i could see the bike but it isn't
Keep us informed and :nike::nike::nike::nike::nike::nike::nike::nike:
ZLRX

i slotted the stock cam sprockets, and dialed the cams in at 105/107, so im sure thats in order.
Im gonna pull the carbs apart later, and then ill post some pics, so you can see if your carbs are the same..

Switched the bowls from my stock carbs ( black ones ) and will go for ride in an hour, keeping my fingers crossed........

What does the KTrick do? I remember reading that term in a road test, but can't recall the function.

It works with a TPS ( throttle postition sensor ) and alters the ignition timing, based upon what you are doing, with the throttle, i think they mainly made because of emission laws, the ugly tubes you see sticking out of the zrx bowls are fuel cutoff valves, and cut off the fuel if you hit the rev limiter, so you wont hurt catalyc converter that are installed in some zrx´s.

Anyways i switched the bowls, and went for a ride, and i think it´s better now, although im not quite sure as it still doesnt pull cleanly through the rev range, but maybe that could just be general jetting thats off, think its time for a dyno run again.
