I hate looking at the left side of a zl with a4 into 1 it looks so naked like that!

Gotta say I like dual pipes better and the muffler area has to be filled out properly like the factory muffler does.

i have to admit, when i first picked up Eleanor, she already had the 4-1 exaust, & i was not crazy about seeing the left side of bike w/o exaust, but it grew on me, & i now like it alot ! however, i love the look of the stock 4-2
exaust better !

my requirements would have to be

OIL FILTER ACCESS ( my 4-1 does not offer this )
** " GROUND CLEARANCE"** ( 4-1 does not offer this )
GREAT STYLING, " MUST LOOK LIKE IT WOULD COME FROM FACTORY "
"PRICE"

i am presently trying to come up with idea's to redo my exaust to gain ground clearance . i am tired of bottoming out on speedbumps etc. etc. CHRIS

Bacchus, I don't know what I could add to what has been said other than to agree that anything would have to have the appearance of stock with the ease of previous suggestions. Cost is definatly a problem because I can't see any aftermarket pipes being less than $500. I already put that amount into Holeshots once and really can't justify it again. Although I do have some ideas in my head for getting some more growl in the sound. Just have to wait for mother nature to cooperate so I can get outside to experment.

1. Would like to keep the stock apearance ie: chrome, 4-2
2. Not too loud, I drive to work early in the morning! :)
3. Slip ons would be fine but would like to see the power chamber go away.
4. Enough of a performance increase when combined with a jet kit to make $500- $600 spent worthwhile

wish list:
1. 4-2
2. slash cut ends
3. close to stock in appearance / big fat final pipe
4. improved exhaust tone / growl
5. street / track exhaust pack option or removable baffle, not too damn loud or harsh.
6. mount in stock location, molded with footpeg brackets
7. oil filter accessability
8. looks / sounds badassssss!! more low, end more rumble
9. $500 price point ----probably will cost more IMHO..
10. adequate ground clarance, pipes tucked up neatly under bike
11. part of a system that could produce 100+rwhp
12. larger dia. primarys
13. no 90 degree angles, smooth exhaust flow path
14. Slip on / full exhaust options
15. Pc must "go away" !

any one who would realistically be interested in the ufo dream pipe if poduced, please cast your vote so that we can gain some insight as to how many memebers would be willing to purchase. This information will be necessary to determine if production will be worth while to the vendor. so dont forget to cast your vote !

4 into 2
slash cut
satin black (I hate chrome)
filter access (maybe spring mouted for easy removal)
optional C/F cans?

I talked to Jon Cornell(UFO) yesterday. We talked about a 4-2 systems, ability to use all the cans he currently offers, and black ceramic is very do-able. I'll be visiting his shop next week and will bring plenty of pics and maybe even a spare exhaust for him to check out. He doesn't know the hurdles in making an exhaust for the zl but as you know, he did over come them on the VMax.

Reading back through this topic it would seem HP gains aren't a concern, but I know thats wrong! I think HP gains are a given in any after-market exhaust!

I have a beat-up stock set(except for the chamber)
if needed for R&D.

You also need to figure in weight loss w/HP gains.
Less weight = more HP per lb.

Hey mach IV,

arnt you fast enough yet??? I think in order to be fair to the rest of us you should have to install a MORE restictive exhuast .....lol

I`m using the stock headpipe(dechromed and jetcoated blk)
and an X-pipe for the rear 1/2.

Today I had a visit with Jon Cornell of UFO Performance Products. We talked about the demand for an exhaust for our bike and decided we should start with a slip-on system eliminating the power chamber.

We need at this point some more input on the design. I prefer the stock look slash cut and size, but I think a smaller slash cut that fit the foot peg holders nicely would look good as well. So let's hear some more input!

I need to add: I'm sure there are a number of you that have original exhausts that are damaged and you don't care for the look or fit of current systems available, so you just suffer the damage! I'm hoping to find a nice new replacement besides some of the 22 yr old junk we see on Ebay!

I would very much like to put on some nice looking slip-ons, eliminating the power chamber is a great bonus! If for no other reason than to preserve my stock cans! :D

Gotta have the stock look - same size, slash cuts, etc. - for the bike to look right to me.

please be sure the slash is positioned in the correct eliminator way ! isnt the outlet diameter of that exhaust 2.75in.?? that would make the outside diameter of the pipe about 3 in. wouldnt it? Did you get a chance to look inside these mufflers? what is the packing- baffeling like???

how does this muffler look to you guys? I guess it is a little bit smaller in diameter than the stock zl can, it doesnt look to small to me in this picture, what do you guys think???

judging by the pic. it does look a little smaller than stock zl can, but i'm not sure . it looks good to me ! i like it !!! CHRIS

Re: ZRX Fork Brace

On the subject of exhaust, I was holding the muffler pipe from the ufo vmax exhaust up to my zl to get some Idea of how it might look on my zl..... Im thinking prety much baddd assss ! a larger final diameter would be better or even better still would be the same size as the vmax but a double, two per side... this would look flat wicked......

Bacchus, where the pic of this held up to your bike?

Re: ZRX Fork Brace

I know how you guys are ZL900 crazy so, here is the picture of the UFO vmax exhaust end held in position on a ZL900. Looks prety good in the picture but looks better live and in person !

Re: ZRX Fork Brace

I was afraid of that! Not to be crude or anything but that doesnt look good at all on the zl. The pipe is way too short and doesnt have enuff diameter to fill the space nearly as good as what is currently available.
