i think this dream is dying, just like the fork braces ! cost, & commitments ! people started out excited about these possibilities, but the interests just seemed to have faded away ! CHRIS

Fork braces are back on the front burner.

So I have to know...did this pipe dream of 4 into 2, slash cut, near stock length for under 500 beans come true?

:-(

So I'm better off just keeping the original pipes or what is the most common substitute, my original are still in good shape but I'm thinking about going pods and re-jet and it's usually most advantageous to do the pipes to get the extra hp...I'd like get more hole and mid range power...recommendations on pods and reject an pipes? I've been reading the previous threads for a while now.

I have an 87 XL1k...I posted it for sale the other day, but today i just bought an engine so I'm back baby...

Couldn't say it any better bacchus.

These projects take money. If anyone is willing to purchase a 3 to 5 grand in custom ZL exhaust systems then this will happen. Contact me if interested.

I'm currently in negotiatons with a local company (this is most likely the most use to UK owners) to make a replica replacement out of stainless steel for the downpipes (headers) and balance pipe all to original dimensions.
will keep you posted on how it goes and importantly price, bearing in mind "predator" wanted £400+ to make these.

I would buy nice pipes from UK.

400 GBP is 634 USD - a lot of money but not terribly out of line. Look at systems for other bikes - some of them up to $1200.

I would also spend a lot of $$$$$ on a new exhaust system- The only reason I have not bought a header is because they hang down so far.

Look guys, it's NOT all about horse power here.. What happened to the pure pleasure of just RIDING and ENJOYING these GREAT BIKES????

I fell in love with my ZL900 and am still putting it back to origanal condition. I would love to see something STOCK come out so that the ORIGINAL look is still there..

We all need to get out of the horse power mind frame and back to the "Dam I need to go for a ride just because I want to ride my ZL" mind frame again..

Just a thaught but like I said I need vote for something stock looking 4 into 2 is a must the 4 into 1 looks to cheesy to me..

I'm always in that frame of mind, until , some little rich punk that goes to the local college pulls up next to me on a crotch rocket that his daddy bought him( lots of those around here) and thinks he's hot ****. Then all I want to do is kick the crap out of him with my old school bike just to see the look on his face.:pistols: There are only 2 kinds of bikes in this town- crotch rockets and hardleys and I want to beat them all!

Sorry guys been house hunting in Tennesse this weekend. I figure since the Army is gonna medically retire me I might as well be happy and moving to Tennesse will make me happy (riding all the time).

Anyway, I have yet to have a Hardely rider or a crotch rocket beat my ZL9. Remember it's always about horse power, but it is all about how you shift..

I have been quoted £250-£300 to have the downpipes and link pipe join made up in stainless steel, they will be making up a jig to produce these using my old parts, when it is done i shall take pics and tell you how the fitting went and my opinion of the quality of the finished item.
fingers crossed!
