New Tools

:hello:14 total and I still need a flash light. :laughing7:. My 25 year old DeWalt 18 volt drill quit working today. I got a $100 LOWES gift card from my Wife for XMAS so I bought a new DeWalt 20 volt drill model # DCD777. It came with a charger, 2 batteries and a soft case. $106. 20211227_151144[1].jpg

:hello: I bought these USA made GATOR hand detail sanders from LOWES. $18 for both. They are soft rubber which seem to have less hand fatigue and they have velcro backing. These IRWIN punches seem to hold up better than most. I also got them from LOWES. $5 each. 20211227_204137[1].jpg

Got these Gear Wrenches for Christmas. WillyD approved! Haven't tried them yet, but suspect they'll make life easier working in tight places.

As you can see, these are quite thin. They'll squeeze in where no socket will fit. The ridges on the side are a cool feature. It allows you to know without looking whether you're spinning the nuts on or off. Ridges on R and it turns to the R.

BTW, how do those LED shop lights compare to a 500W halogen? I'm looking to upgrade, but would hate to lose any lumes. Like a wise man once said you can't ever have too much.

:hello: Halogen lights get to hot. Here in FL it's to hot as it is and they use way to much energy. LEDs are much better.

I agree with all that, just want something of equivalent candle power. Seems some LED products are pretty damned bright, but others are weak to the point of being nearly useless. My go-to halogen on a stand took a crap on me a few weeks ago and I was looking at LEDs, but was getting the idea that many were not too bright. Took the halo all apart, shined up the metal bits, redid all the connections and she's up and running again thankfully, but tend to agree with you the LEDs are better. I got some smallish LED flashlights that are better than a 5D cell maglite. Also have a headlamp that turns night into day that I use all the time. If interested I can post up a pic. I prob look like a nut with it on, but I use it very often when wrenching. It's nice to have light right where you need it without having to use a flashlight!

Also find the heat annoying when it's warm out, but man, that heat is great when working in a cold garage! They also don't blow out in cold weather like they do where it's warm.

I could be wrong, but those numbers sound far below that of a 500w halogen. I needs me light! My biggest gripe with the halogen is that the bulbs burn out at the absolute worst times it seems. Odd how in the wintertime I seem to never lose a bulb, but in the summer I go through them pretty regularly.

Here's a pic of my new cheapo analog meter. Didn't cost a lot, but pretty highly rated. I got several digital VOMs, but I like to keep the analog one handy for checking for volts and continuity.

:hello: One thing that makes LEDs brighter is the way the light is directed/reflected. In Areo-space we used LEDs for bulbs 20 years before they made their way to the public. In 1986 I went to an Engineer with a mock up LED flash light. He told me that it wouldn't be very bright. I thought about getting a paten but did not. If I did what would of happened. :laughing7:. :pain10:.

^ You probably would have received a couple of hundred upon filing then a grand upon approval from the company. The company would then own the rights to it. At least that's how it works in my world.
:roflmao:

Do knives qualify? Any interest? I have a modest collection of mostly autos.

I'm up for seeing some blades, I carry a cheapo snap on that I got with a mini flashlight but I keep it sharp. It's thin and light with plastic handle.

I could be mistaken, but was there once a knife thread here? If there is enough interest maybe a devoted knife thread would be better than to muddle this one up with a bunch of knife pics. Or I can just post some pics here. Thoughts?

Feel free to start a thread!

Picked up the ATV/motorcycle jack at harbor freight. Having the exhaust hang under the frame of my ZL And XS will require me to get creative if I want to use it on them. It will work well for the HD, my mower and a quad when I get one of those.

Anyone build up some blocking to make use of it on the ZL?
