Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD) 2013

Re: Vmd 2013

I have been there come to think of it. It was in the 90s. I watched my oldest brother race his funny car. I got to go right onto the track to video tape. I stood right between the cars on the starting line. You can actually fill vibration through your body from those nitro burning engines. R. J.

Re: Vmd 2013

Called a few hotels tonight SUPER 8 is booked...a few others were getting close...ended up booking at MOTEL 6, pretty small place (but that's why I chose it) they had a couple left, basic and cheap. If you're planning on staying in a hotel you better get on the horn now!!! :goodluck: BTW anyone know the helmet law in OH?

Re: Vmd 2013

I planed my route to include stopping to see family & friends. It is going to be almost a 3 week trip. Deltona FL to Culpeper VA. 792 mi. 11.5 hrs. Then Culpeper VA to Johnstown PA 191 mi. 3.5 hrs. Johnstown PA to Hubbard OH 122 mi. 2.5 hrs. Hubbard OH to Lexington OH. 124 mi. 2hrs. Lexington OH to Flint MICH. 222 mi. 3.5 hrs. Flint MICH to Deltona FL. 1165 miles. 17.5 hrs. Total miles 2616. Total driving time 40.5 Hrs. $1200 in fuel alone. My wife & I did the same route on our 1983 Honda 650 SC Nighthawk in 1987 except we stayed off the Interstates most of the time. We rode the Blue Ridge Parkway & Shannondoa Sky Line Drive. It was our best vacation ever. The only vacation that my wife wasn't telling me how to drive.:laughing7:

Re: Vmd 2013

Johnstown, PA, isn't that where the film "All the right moves" was filmed? That's close to where I bought my Camaro back in 1984. Ordered from my Stepfather's cousin who had a dealership in Carroltown, PA. Drove 5 hours to pick it up and 5 hours home, of course the speed limit was 55 back then and PA state police all over the place. Got pulled over returning home for having headphones on since didn't have a stereo in the car yet.

Re: Vmd 2013

:hello: Ya that movie was filmed there in 1981. Myself & 3 friends went down to be in the part at the Greater Johnstown High School football field. We got through-ed out because my one friend Steve was wasted so bad he kept messing with the camera crew. He kept getting in front of this one crew up in the stands. Carroltown PA was 10 min. from were I grew up. My wife & I used to go to this Redneck night club there. It was crazy old good times.:laughing7: R. J.

Re: Vmd 2013

This will be my First time going to the VMD and I will be attending for sure.
Also I will most likely be riding down there. What do I need to bring? Where do we meet?
Any other info for a NOOB like me would be AWESOME

Re: Vmd 2013

As time gets closer we will get meet times set up Its a bit early for that yet.

As for what you need to bring - what ever you need for a weekend get away. We all pack differently some bring food and cook out some of us bring money and eat at restraunts.

For me I pack clothes and personal higene things and a tent as i stay at the campground. I usually eat at the local restraunts and buy some munchies for when sitting around the campsite once I get out there.
many of us take evening road trips to some of the restraunts and have meals together as well as at least one group breakfast during the event.

Re: Vmd 2013

Generally friday and saturday during the day, there will be a grill at the track and friday early we pass the plate so to speak for people to contribute some cash and make a grocery store run. We get stuff like burgers, buns, plates, mustard, ketchup, water, etc. Every year that I have been there, I cook the lunch at the track for whoever is there during the day. Everyone has varying degrees of being an "early riser" and if several guys at the campground ride over to the track together, there is a diner along the way that is a popular stop. I most likely will come down friday morning and go to the track with my bike, trailer, grill, tools, etc. and leave the trailer at the club site and commute via the bike depending on weather. During the days (friday and saturday) at the track, there are things to go and see there like racing all day (boring for me as it is not drag racing) and there is a swap meet all weekend. They have demo rides that you can sign up for, etc. Some guys will bring bikes that need some work done and Chris usually has his trailer available with a bike lift for a means of working on the bike out of the weather. Usually there will be some small tents members bring to sit under with lawn chairs during the day. Depending on weather some guys will split off and go for rides outside the track. This will hopefully be the first year where I don't have anything that needs to be done to a bike and I can help someone else, sit and BS, etc...How active we all are depends a lot on the weather...

Re: Vmd 2013

Speaking of Chris and his trailer/garage...I was hoping to get some help doing a valve adjustment and some other minor things.:help: Would that be possible or is it too involved?

Re: Vmd 2013

After careful debate and friendly words :pain10: it has been decided to go the hotel route. Asside from gas, can anyone tell me what would be a right amount to save $$$

Hotel----$100.00 per night minimum, probably more. Depending if you share costs or go it alone.
Food----We all chip in on Friday to buy food for cooking at the track for the weekend. $10.00 to $20.00 per person depending on how many people show up.
Food again----we usually eat out for the late meal of the day and sometimes breakfast, depends what you want to eat.
Merchandise at the track, sometimes good vendors, sometimes not.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Re: Vmd 2013

EggmanZL1000, a valve adjustment isn't that time consuming or difficult so yes, there should be someone to walk you through it. Just be sure to order parts way ahead of time and have yourself covered on what you should need to do a certain job. Inevidably, you can never have 'everything' you'll wind up needing and that's where I come in at. I always bring containers full of parts for those 'emergency' situations that arise when you get something apart and discover something broken or worn out. Hard to say how many times I've bailed out somebody in need of something. ZL-OA membership does have it's advantages!! :notworthy:
Branica, depends on how much you like spending $$$........I'll generally drop 4 or 5 Benjy's over the course of the weekend.
