Water pump rebuilding service.

:hello: Before I pack these mechanical seals back up to send to Motosport I decided to take the 87-94 250 Eliminator spare water pump apart. It takes the same bearing & the same 35 mm ceramic mechanical seal as the ZL9/10. It does not have an oil seal or a retainer clip. The 250 Eliminator water pump part # 49044-1086. It also is for the 250 Ninja 1987-2012. http://www.motosport.com/oem-parts/part-number/49044-1086 . IMG_4216.JPG

:hello: I picked up a used water pump for the 250 Eliminator $65 shipped. It is off of a 2012 EX 250 Ninja with 6 K miles. I'm not going to take this one apart because it only has 6,000 miles on it & it is very clean. Almost new looking. The first ones mechanical ceramic seal post # 65 is no good as is the one in the bike. The EX 250 & EL 250 share the same water pump 1987 to 2012 part # 49044-1086. This one has the 32 mm mechanical seal according to KAW. Also the oil seal is 25 mm x 12 mm x 7 mm as is the bearings. Again it has no retainer clip. The earlier 250 pumps use the 35 mm seal & the same bearings & oil seal as the big ZLs. I have 6 water pumps that need the 35 mm seal. The oil seal on the left is 25 mm OD is out of this water pump & the one on the right is the 28 mm OD one._____________________________________________________________________________IMG_4227.JPG IMG_4228.JPG

RJ, my bike is leaking oil around the water pump area. I fixed this on my 900 years ago but can't remember what parts I ordered and what all I did to stop the oil Leak. Should I just have the water pump rebuilt? Let me know brother, might have to get you some work if you are looking for it.

Sorry I haven't Been around in such a long time, it's been a crazy few years! Madman, you still out there, lol!

Brad

:hello: Just replace your oil seal on the end of the pumps shaft. Rotate your shaft to see if it turns freely if so the bearings are OK: Until I can find the 35 mm mech. seal I won't be rebuilding any water pumps anytime soon. Most likely yours will need the 35 mm one.

Do you have a part number handy for that seal? Thanks, I'll start looking for that 3m seal also.

Oh.... Is it the same for the 900 and 1000? I need both done.

:hello: No I do not have a part # for the 35 mm seal. Our bikes use 2 different seals the 32 mm or the 35 mm. Kaw must of used 2 different suppliers for our water pumps so you do not know which one you have until you take the pump apart. If you do have a pump with the 32 mm seal it is available from KAW. Part # 49063-1055 $16.58 each. Read threw this entire thread for all water pump OEM part #s. How I've been searching for the 35 mm seal is that KAW started listing mechanical seals for bikes made after 2014 as far as I can tell. So what I have been doing is ordering one of each that I have found. So far I've found 4 different seal part #s. 3 of them are not the 35 mm & 2 was the 32 mm but one does not come with the white ceramic seal & it is twice the price of the $16 one.

:hello: Brad is either of you pumps leaking coolant from the weep hole if not I can rebuild them if you like. Off the top of my head OEM parts would be around $120 & labor would be $60. $16 for return shipping with $150 of insurance. A new water pump from KAWASAKI is $320.

:hello: Kawboy I received the water pump & parts today. Thank's. I'll do your pump later on in the week. The box for the new 35 mm seal doesn't really say who the manufacture is unless it's called Mechanical Seal :laughing7:. I made some calls today & searched the WEB with no luck. Also I ran the #s on the box & had no luck. I found another KAW OEM part # 49063-1001. Price $70.87.:pain10: It is for 79 to 82 KZ 1300 & 83 to 88 Voyager 1300. :hello: All's I know is when I went to place an order it said something about letting Google ba ba ba. I didn't understand what they meant.

:hello:Just my 2ct: searched a little and found this jap. company TOURMAX where all ceramic seal kits are named like WMS-90x where 'x' are diff. numbers for diff. bike brands; trick is to find out which is the 35mm without buying and measuring. Maybe this is dead end street but just wanted to mention.

:hello:I just googled for 'tourmax' and got over shops to offers and sometimes lists, you can even search for WMS-901...WMS-909 to get hits (no ZL, ZX or so - we're too old, our bikes are too old, our minds are too...:laughing7:).

:hello: I got the same thing. I think I found one. Check out size 0127-B on second line of the right chart in pic. Read the dimensions & refer to the drawing in the upper right hand corner. 20170524_091213.jpg The Manufacture is in the UK. The supplier is out of Golden CO. Seals Unlimited Inc. http://www.sealsunlimitedinc.com/ The person that I contacted is Bryant Fields. Phone # 800-346-1604. He is going to contact the manufacturer & get me a price quote. He is confidant that this seal will work. I E-Mailed him with all diminutions, pics of the seal & the water pump.

:hello:That's cool...but d3=30 (Metric) - aren't you looking for 35 ? Btw: this 'view attachment #' isn't working for me (...not found) but I can open the pics; if that's the same then o.k.

:hello: The chart diagram pic of post # 84 or pic # 20 here is the one that Bryant sent me. In the chart part # 0127B line # 2 Row d3 the 30 mm measurement is the cup size & not the lip size. Here are the pics that I sent Bryant.________________________________________IMG_4248.JPG IMG_4247.JPG IMG_4249.JPG IMG_4250.JPG IMG_4251.JPG IMG_4269.JPG IMG_4270.JPG IMG_4271.JPG IMG_4261.JPG IMG_4262.JPG IMG_4263.JPG IMG_4264.JPG IMG_4265.JPG IMG_4255.JPG IMG_4252.JPG IMG_4266.JPG IMG_4267.JPG IMG_4253.JPG IMG_4254.JPGIMG_4272.JPG
