Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD) 2013

Re: Vmd 2013

so if i wanted 2 set up in the club space with camper/enclosed trailer its ok 2 run a generator and is there plenty of room in club space? i guess it's first come first spot, and what is the fee 4 camping there? thanks 4 any info.

Re: Vmd 2013

as far as camping at track, i'm not sure how that works out. " Rammy1500" will be able to answer that for you, but as far as bringing motorhome to club space (other than to drop your trailer) your motorhome will not be able to stay on club space they will not allow it.

that is why i do not bring mine. the camping area's at track are in outlaying area's, club space is inside infield area.

Re: Vmd 2013

its a enclosed trailer 4 a couple bikes, tools ect. with a sleeping area up in the front. a/c, microwave, small sink. so it seems 2 me that i cant park in zloa site and sleep there. am i correct? i can wait 4 rammy 2 chime in as it's still a long way off. thanks.

Re: Vmd 2013

at the end of each day, security makes rounds in the infield areas ( all club spaces ) & tells everyone to leave. once out of infield, gates are closed & locked. can not enter the club space again until following morning.

Re: Vmd 2013

Just to further elaborate. Typically we have been getting a 2 space lot at the track for our club space. I would guess it is about 50 ft wide and probably 125-150 ft deep. Chris has a large trailer that usually sets up more center and in the rear of the space. Furchin has a pretty good sized trailer as well and he usually parks it on the right side of the space. I have a small 6x12 trailer and I fit it in the back too. Usually my tahoe and trailer arrive at the club space (as do Chris and Furchin) and we leave them hooked up and they stay parked in there for the duration. There are usually a couple of tents set up (canopy style) for people to sit under during the day and the front section of the space is where we park our bikes to be on display. I generally try to do all my commuting from the track to the campground or hotel or the dinner or breakfast places via bike. Directly across from our club space is a pretty good sized grassy area with more parking available. There is no electric at the track (as Chris mentioned) to plug into. When you arrive at the track you come in the front gate. You have to wind back through everything to get where our club space is. The road from the front gate to the club space area is paved but then you turn onto the grassy area and it is gravel/grass along that. They have several clubs there who set up spaces, some more elaborate. If you are going to camp in an RV at the offsite campsite you could drop your bike off at the club space and then head to the campground to set up and maybe get a ride back to the track or you could go directly to the campsite and set up and then ride your bike to the track. As Chris said, the track opens in the morning and you come on over. Towards the end of the day/evening, they roust everybody out of the track and run security all night. Nobody is allowed to stay or sleep at the track over night...

Re: Vmd 2013

Just like everyone else says, at night they actually run everybody out of the infield (where the club space is located) and lock it down (ask Austin how he knows this). They do have their own campgrounds and it like $30 for the weekend. There are all kinds of campers and trailers in the campgrounds and some run generators as well. They also have porta johns and a portable shower house (although the real shower house is at the VIP campgrounds at the other end of the track). Austin and I trailer the bikes up so I can bring my camping stuff and we each have our own tents. I'm sure the camping there is louder than at the campground off site, but I like having my truck with my tools and such close by because I'm one of those that I perfer to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Hopefully 87 will be there again this year and setup close to my site. I'm not much of a whisky person, but enjoy a shot now and then. I'll trade a cup of coffee any morning for a shot of whisky at night.

And if we have the same club space as last year there will be plenty of places to park there since we had the last two spots in the infield. Plenty of room all around us. But again, everybody has to leave at night and the area is locked down. You can go to Mid-Ohio.com and look at the track map and it will show you the infield, track and campgrounds, so you can get an idea of the layout.

I remember one of my first years there, my wife was with me and had friends that had friends that had a setup in the VIP campgrounds, now that is the way to roll. These folks had a Semi truck and trailer, the trailer had living quarters up front with a garage in the back. The owner restored old bikes (I mean 1900's British and American) as a hobby. That setup had to be close to $400k not including the mint vintage bikes he had in the trailer.

Re: Vmd 2013

All good information for people that have not had a chance to make it yet. After missing it last year, I am returning this year for sure!!! I will be able to bring that 10X20 tent that I had in 2011 to give some shade just in case it's 100 degrees again!! I plan to stay at the campground away from the track like I did last time as well. 2011 was my first trip to VMD and after posting on this site for a couple years asking for help with my bike it was awesome to get to know some of the people that had helped me out over the years!! We had a little "mid-west" caravan on the way there which made it nice to travel with others from the site. I am hoping for better weather than in 2011... between the downpours and HEAT we didn't have an opportunity to do much but sit around and B.S..... Which actually was a great time as well!! My buddy Shane (Ralph) that came with me last time moved to Oregon last Christmas so I'll have to figure out how to get my bike there this year. I'll figure it out!!

Man, just thinking about making back to hang out with all the people I met last time and see some new faces is getting me excited about coming back this year!! Once it gets closer, I'll contact Wissler,WillyD, and anyone else that may be leaving from the area and get the ZL Nation convoy together again!!!

Re: Vmd 2013

Thanks for posting up some info on this guys!! Martina & I was wondering what to do with the 23foot trailer, because we haul the bikes in and sleep in it also! I got a smaller enclosed (the one i took up to Bud's that some of you seen) but its a little to small for two street bikes, i can get three dirt bikes in there but kinda tight for the bigger street bikes! With that said i guess we can just set up at the camp(which one are the zl brothers staying at?), and then ride the bikes to the club site!! I got a big KAWASAKI EZ-UP(some of you seen), I could bring also for the club site if ya guys think we might need it!!??

Re: Vmd 2013

Wait a sec...??

If I can count (:laughing7:) Chris, furchin, willy, madman, and red. So far thats 5 trailers!!!

How many trailers are we gonna be bringing?

FYI, I already bought my tickets :headbang:

Is there a limit to how many we can have? Is there enough space?

I was thinking that even tho the security guys make everyone leave. could he still leave his trailer there locked up?

Re: Vmd 2013

Several trailers can actually fit...If need be I can move mine out once I unload. I will bringing one grill for sure, maybe two. I also have access to a generator if need be and I could bring a 20x20 canopy too. Ofcourse I will have tools with me and some coolers too. Don't worry about fitting...We will make it work one way or another. Like Rammy said, there are plenty of grassy areas all around the actual club space.

Re: Vmd 2013

:hello:MadMan: I'll bring my potable polishing table.:laughing7: It's probably better that you don't ride while you are there, because I here you always want to see how quick you can get to the next traffic light. :rotf: R. J.

:hello:I guess I could bring a little yellow bus. I could mount my buffing table in it for you.:laughing7: I never take my Eliminator over 55. Never let the tach go past 6 grand. I don't want to offend my Harley rider friends + they always get lost or need a qt. of oil:rotf::rotf: R. J.

I tried that once but quickly learned not to do it when the front tire came off the ground. Scared me sh*tless!!! I gave the lady in the SUV a "Holy Sh*t! Did you see that!?" look... Even tho it was extremely awesome:headbang: I decided to not do that again

BTW - What are the helmet laws in IN and OH?
